Context
Glenorchy in context
Glenorchy is where Oakville is currently being built. It is the eastern half of the North Oakville East Secondary Plan area, a grid of new arterials, storm ponds and half-finished subdivisions north of Dundas Street, and it carries more active development applications than any other part of town.
The largest by a wide margin is at the southeast corner of Trafalgar Road and Burnhamthorpe Road East, where Westerkirk has proposed 6,420 homes across 27 buildings in seven phases, including ten towers of 18 to 30 storeys. A statutory public meeting on that application is set for 8 September 2026. For scale, the four provincial Transit-Oriented Community sites in Midtown together account for about 6,800 homes.
The area's other defining feature is public land. The Glenorchy Conservation Area protects a large block at its northern edge, and Infrastructure Ontario holds significant land holdings along Trafalgar Road and William Halton Parkway that are themselves the subject of planning applications.
