Context
Glenorchy is where much of Oakville is currently being built. It is the western half of the North Oakville East Secondary Plan area, the land between Sixteen Mile Creek and Trafalgar Road north of Dundas Street, and it takes in the Preserve subdivisions around Neyagawa Boulevard and Sixth Line.
School construction shows how fast it is filling. A new Halton District secondary school at 4020 Sixth Line opens in September 2027, a new elementary school at 3490 Preserve Drive is due in fall 2028, and the Halton Catholic board has a funded elementary school at 3500 Post Road waiting on its site plan. Sixth Line itself is being rebuilt as a four-lane urban road north of Threshing Mill Boulevard.
Across Trafalgar Road is the other half of the secondary plan, the Joshua's Meadows community. That is where one of the two largest applications in town sits: Westerkirk's proposal for 6,420 homes at Trafalgar Road and Burnhamthorpe Road East. It is not in Glenorchy, but it is the neighbouring development most likely to change how this area works.

A new Halton District secondary school at 4020 Sixth Line opens in September 2027; name suggestions from the community closed on 13 September 2026.
A new Halton District elementary school, currently called Oakville #5 PS, is being built at 3490 Preserve Drive, at Settlers Road West, with 926 student spaces and 88 licensed childcare spaces, expected to open in fall 2028.
