Oakville is lifting a radio-tower zoning hold on Mattamy's north Oakville land

A holding provision tied to a nearby AM radio tower blocked development on the Mattamy-owned site for years. With the towers removed in February 2026, the Town is set to lift it at a routine October 8 staff meeting.

The details

What is changing

Oakville is set to lift a zoning “hold” on Mattamy-owned land in north Oakville — a routine, staff-level approval at the October 8 Commissioner's Delegated Authority meeting, not a decision debated by Council. Removing the hold confirms the block can proceed toward development.

Why a radio tower was involved

When the Ontario Land Tribunal's predecessor approved the subdivision in 2019, By-law 2020-116 placed Holding Provision H48 on the land because of an AM radio tower on the abutting property to the south, now owned by Argo Lions Valley. Under H48, the land could not be developed until either the neighbouring land stopped being used as an AM radio station, or testing confirmed and managed any electromagnetic interference with future residents' consumer and medical electronics and their health and safety.

What changed is straightforward: the radio towers were removed in February 2026. With the station gone, the first condition is met, and planning staff recommend lifting the hold. The Town's notice reports that no public comments were received.
