Data

Our sources

Every recurring public source we report from, with its licence and cadence.

Why this page exists

A local publication is worth what its sourcing is worth. Listing the sources publicly is the cheapest way to make that checkable: if a figure on this site looks wrong, you can find the dataset it came from here, go to the publisher, and see for yourself.

Licences are recorded exactly as the publisher states them. Where a publisher gives no licence, this page says “not stated” rather than assuming one. We report from those sources as public records and cite them; we do not republish their material as our own.

What we watch, and how often

These pages are checked automatically for change. A change is an editorial signal: it tells a person to go and read the source. It does not draft anything and it does not publish anything. Where a source has a page here that it should update, that page is named, so a multi-year review stays at one address instead of scattering across a dozen.

What we do not use

OakvilleIQ does not use multiple listing service data, private property records, valuation feeds or any dataset that is licensed for real estate purposes. It does not scrape other news publications. It does not use datasets whose licence does not permit the use we would put them to.

We also do not compute a school catchment from coordinates. Attendance boundaries are set by the school boards and published by them; a distance calculation dressed as a catchment would be the most damaging thing this publication could get wrong for a family. Our schools page says so on the page itself.

If a figure looks wrong

Tell us. Every story lists the exact documents behind it with the date we retrieved them, and this page lists the recurring datasets. If a number here does not match its source, that is a correction and we will treat it as one. How corrections work.
