Who do I call in Oakville?

Town, Region, hydro or 911: which one handles what, and how to reach it.

What is the Town responsible for?

Building permits and inspections, development and planning applications, zoning certificates, by-law enforcement and noise exemptions, dog licences, business licences, parking tickets and permits, Town roads, sidewalks and snow clearing, street and park trees, parks, recreation programs and facility rentals, Oakville Transit, property tax billing, marriage licences, the Fire Department, and the Mayor and Council. How do I reach the Town?

Online, through the Town's online services, where you can submit and track a service request, report a problem, apply for permits and register for programs. By phone at 905-845-6601, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. By email at service@oakville.ca. In person at the single ServiceOakville counter at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road, or by appointment with a department in person or by video.

Something is dangerous and it is the weekend. Who answers?

Call 905-845-6601 and press 1. The Town keeps the line open 24 hours a day for urgent matters affecting public safety, such as a traffic signal that has failed or debris on the road. For police, fire or ambulance, dial 911.

Halton Region

What is Halton Region responsible for?

Garbage, recycling, the green cart, yard waste and bulk pickup, including missed collections, bag tags and the Halton Waste Management Site. The Town's own garbage page sends residents to the Region at 311 or 905-825-6000, and the Town's snow page sends residents who need help clearing a fire hydrant to the same number.

Utilities and emergencies

The power is out. Who do I call?

Oakville Hydro, the Town's local electricity distributor. Its outage map shows current interruptions, and it offers text-message outage alerts and a mobile app for account and outage information.

When is it 911?

For emergency police, fire and ambulance assistance. Everything else that is urgent but not an emergency goes to the Town's 24-hour line at 905-845-6601 (press 1).
