The details

What is happening

Hockey Canada's U17 World Challenge, an international tournament for players under 17, is being played at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in north Oakville. Hockey Canada announced in January that the 34th edition would be held November 1 to 7, 2026 at the 1,500-seat complex, and that Oakville would host the event for the first time. The Town of Oakville is one of the event's named partners, and the Town's June 2 release on the opening of the expanded facility listed the tournament among the complex's coming events.

Six teams take part: two Canadian entries, Canada Red and Canada White, and Czechia, Finland, Sweden and the United States. In the schedule Hockey Canada released on October 1, Canada Red, Finland and the United States play in Group A, and Canada White, Czechia and Sweden in Group B. Each team plays one pre-tournament game on Friday, October 30 before the preliminary round begins on November 1. Quarterfinals are on November 5, semifinals on November 6 and the medal games on November 7.

Parking at the Sixteen Mile library branch

Oakville Public Library has posted an alert on its website: from October 30 to November 7, parking at its Sixteen Mile Branch may be limited during the U17 World Hockey Challenge at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. For that period the library asks visitors to use the exterior doors "to access Express @ Sixteen Mile Sports Complex".

The library's alert does not say whether branch hours or programs change. The Town's service-disruptions page, checked on the morning of October 30, lists no notice about public skating or other programs at the complex during the tournament.
