North Oakville's Sixteen Mile Sports Complex reopens with a 65,000-square-foot community centre

What happened

The Town of Oakville opened the expanded Sixteen Mile Sports Complex at 3070 Neyagawa Boulevard on Saturday 30 May 2026. The expansion adds a community centre and a public library branch to a site that had been an arena since 2010.

The new community centre is 65,000 square feet and holds a fitness centre, a gymnasium and program space. The Oakville Public Library branch inside it is 18,000 square feet, with a children's area, a discovery zone, a community living room, a laptop bar and a quiet study room.

Outdoors, the site adds a playground, a bike pump track, an all-wheel park, an outdoor fitness station, cricket and sports fields and a dog park. Basketball, pickleball, tennis and beach-volleyball courts were scheduled to open over the summer. The existing ice remains: an Olympic-sized rink and three NHL-sized pads.

Why it matters

North Oakville has taken most of the town's residential growth this decade while its recreation capacity lagged the older neighbourhoods to the south. A 65,000-square-foot community centre with a full library branch is the kind of amenity that had been missing north of Dundas, and it lands as the surrounding subdivisions and the new secondary school fill in.

The Town has said publicly it wants a community centre serving each of its seven wards. This opening is one of the larger steps toward that, pairing indoor recreation and a library under one roof rather than as separate buildings.
