The Halton Catholic District School Board held a groundbreaking and blessing ceremony on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 at the site of its new North Oakville #3 Catholic Elementary School, 3500 Post Road, near Burnhamthorpe Road West and Sixth Line. In a release the next day, the board said the ceremony marked the beginning of construction on a school meant to meet the needs of Oakville's growing Catholic school community.
Board Chair Marvin Duarte and Chief Executive Officer and Chief Education Officer John Klein attended, along with Mayor-elect Jeff Knoll, who is still the Ward 5 Town and Regional Councillor until the new term begins, and Ward 7 councillors Nav Nanda and Scott Xie. Reverend Jerry Punnassery of Mary Mother of God Catholic Church in Oakville blessed the site.

The board's release describes a three-storey building. The Town's public site plan file for the same address describes a two-storey elementary school with a child care centre to be run by a third-party provider. The board's school-planning page says it was approved for Ministry of Education capital funding through the 2024-25 Capital Priorities Program.
With $32.7 million in provincial funding, this new Catholic elementary school will create 671 student spaces and 88 licensed childcare spaces, giving local families greater access to quality education and childcare close to home.
In the same statement, the MPP said the Province has approved six new schools and one school expansion in Oakville North-Burlington since 2018, creating 5,400 student spaces and 440 child-care spaces. That figure covers the whole riding, which includes part of Burlington, not Oakville alone.
Nearby: the HDSB's Oakville #5 PS
Less than a kilometre to the south, by the Town planning layer's coordinates for the two sites, is the Halton District School Board's Oakville #5 Public School at 3490 Preserve Drive, which broke ground on September 10 and which that board expects to open in fall 2028 with 926 student places and 88 licensed child-care spaces. The two projects together add close to 1,600 elementary places in one corner of Glenorchy.
