What changed in Oakville: the week of 1 September

A weekly digest of what actually moved in Oakville, with the primary document behind each item. This week is unusually front-loaded: several things that have been in process for months all land in the same fortnight.

Now in effect

• Oakville Transit's autumn service change takes effect on 6 September. Route 1 Trafalgar gains a Kerr Street connection to downtown, Route 14/14A returns to Reynolds Street, Route 37 Glenorchy extends to King's Christian Collegiate on bell-time trips, and a new Route 80N carries north Oakville students to Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School.
• Belyea Street in Bronte remains closed between East River Street and East Street. The closure began on 18 May for Halton Region wastewater main replacement and has been extended to 30 September.
• The Halton District School Board's school year starts on 8 September. School offices are open for registration now.

Happening in the next fortnight

Still open

Three files have no resolution date and are worth watching rather than acting on. Official Plan Amendment 70, the Town's own framework for Midtown Oakville, remains with the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing with no decision issued. The Falgarwood and Joshua Creek boundary review is expected to reach a decision in winter 2026. And the 2027 budget, opening at a preliminary 4.97 per cent overall tax increase, will be considered in early 2027 by a Council that has not been elected yet.

The autumn election

Oakville's municipal election is on Monday 26 October 2026, with advance voting on 7 to 10 October and 13 to 18 October. The Town publishes voters' list, voting location and certified candidate information, and runs an Am I On the List tool for checking or updating your registration, which is what determines whether a voter card reaches you by mail.
