The details

The meeting

The Halton District School Board's Board of Trustees meets in public session on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 at 6 p.m. at the J.W. Singleton Education Centre, 2050 Guelph Line in Burlington. The agenda says seating in the public gallery is limited to 60 people, first come, first served, and that the meeting is livestreamed on hdsb.ca and the board's YouTube channel. Its action items include two Oakville decisions: the name of the new secondary school at 4020 Sixth Line, and a boundary change between Falgarwood and Joshua Creek public schools.

Five names for the new high school

Board Report 26076 asks trustees to name the new secondary school, called Oakville NE #1 in board planning, and leaves the name blank for trustees to fill in. The school opens in September 2027. The School Naming Committee's shortlist, listed alphabetically, is Bronte Creek, North Oak, Riverstone, Sixteen Mile and Sixteen Mile Creek. The report says the committee is confident in any of the five and "did not rank the names by preference." Once trustees choose, staff send the name to the Minister of Education for final approval.

The shortlist and the committee's notes (Board Report 26076)
Bronte Creek
Honours the creek and its place in regional history; the creek was historically known as Twelve Mile Creek. A preferred option among students consulted through the Student Senate and student trustees.
North Oak
A simple geographic name for a school in North Oakville; also preferred by students. The report notes Minto uses North Oak for a condominium community near Dundas Street East and Trafalgar Road, which could cause confusion.
Riverstone
Draws on Oakville's creeks, trails and valleys; also preferred by students. The report found no significant negative associations.
Sixteen Mile
Ties to the local waterway and its history. The report notes possible confusion with the heritage-designated Sixteen School schoolhouse on Fourth Line.
Sixteen Mile Creek
Chosen in part because the school is very close to the creek; the committee was equally in favour of it and Sixteen Mile. Same caution about the Sixteen School schoolhouse.

The shortlist went to the board's Committee of the Whole for discussion on October 20. If trustees adopt none of the five, the report says the naming committee would be reconvened to draw up a new shortlist, and that the delay would likely mean the decision is not made by the current Board of Trustees because the term is ending.

Falgarwood to Joshua Creek

Board Report 26077 recommends Option 1 of the Falgarwood PS/Joshua Creek PS Community Integration Boundary Review: moving a pocket of housing at the southwest corner of Dundas Street East and Prince Michael Drive, now in Falgarwood Public School's JK-8 English catchment, into Joshua Creek Public School's, effective September 2027. The draft resolution refers to Appendix B of Board Report 26065, the information report trustees received on September 9; Report 26077 says nothing has changed since then.

  • Three current Falgarwood students live in the study area, the report says.
  • Students in Grades 6 to 8 would keep a legacy exemption to stay at Falgarwood until they graduate, with transportation.
  • Primary students could stay at Falgarwood, applying for courtesy bus seating if available, or move to Joshua Creek.
  • Younger siblings and future JK-8 students would register at Joshua Creek. The French Immersion school (Munn's) and the secondary school (Iroquois Ridge) do not change, according to Appendix B.

Appendix B projects Falgarwood above 100 per cent of its building capacity by 2027 and Joshua Creek under 80 per cent by 2028. Report 26077 says notices of the recommendation went out on September 1 and that one email about the review had been received as of August 19; the board's review page posts a message to families dated September 8, and notes that the October Board meeting was cancelled and that trustees will consider the recommendation on November 3.

How to speak to trustees

Under the board's delegation procedure, residents of Halton may ask to address trustees on an item they will vote on within five weeks. Requests go through the Delegation Request Form on hdsb.ca and are due by noon one day before the meeting, which for this meeting is noon on Monday, November 2. The board schedules at most six delegations per meeting. Questions about the boundary review can go to FJC_Review@hdsb.ca.
