Context
River Oaks in context
River Oaks is the mature middle of north Oakville: a 1980s and 1990s community of detached and townhouse blocks laid out between Sixteen Mile Creek and Trafalgar Road, anchored by a large Town recreation complex on Sixth Line and threaded with creek-valley trails.
Its development story now runs along Sixth Line rather than through the interior. Post Residences at 1493 Sixth Line carries both an official plan amendment and a rezoning, and Council has already approved applications at 1295 Sixth Line and on a run of properties between 1020 and 1042 Sixth Line. The pattern is intensification along an arterial that already carries transit, with the interior subdivisions untouched.
The area's other structural fact is the creek. Sixteen Mile Creek and its tributaries cut through it, which constrains where anything can be built and gives the community a trail network that is genuinely usable rather than decorative.
