Glen Abbey in context
Glen Abbey is the clearest example in Oakville of a community that was master-planned and then finished. It was laid out around a golf course in the 1970s and 1980s with curving collector roads, a consistent housing stock and its own community centre, and it has stayed close to that shape since.
That has a direct consequence for anyone watching development: as of 4 September 2026 there were no active development or site plan applications on the Town's Ward 2 or Ward 4 lists for addresses inside Glen Abbey. The pressure sits at the edges instead, on Speers Road to the south and along Dundas Street West to the north, and the community's exposure to change is mostly indirect, through traffic, school boundaries and town-wide policy.
The one file with the potential to change that is the future of the golf course lands themselves, which have been the subject of a long planning and heritage argument.
