Kept current
A polygon that straddles a community line is counted wholly in the community holding its centre. Polygons whose centre falls outside every Official Plan outline (road allowances at the edge, the 407 lands) are not in any row.

The answer

10,137 of Oakville’s 11,903 zoned hectares fall inside one of the Town’s 23 Official Plan communities; the remaining 1,766 sit outside every community outline. Among communities over 200 hectares, Eastlake is the most residential by share (78% of its zoned land). QEW West Industrial District holds the most employment-zoned land, 521 hectares. North Oakville’s communities are zoned under By-law 2009-189, whose General Urban and Neighbourhood Centre zones mix housing types in a way the RL and RM zones south of Dundas Street do not, so the two halves of the table are not the same categories. Method, sources and what is left out

Every zone polygon in the Town’s two zoning layers carries a code and, through its zone record, a link to the part of its by-law that governs it; OakvilleIQ groups polygons by that part. The hectares are computed from each polygon’s outline. A polygon is assigned to the Official Plan community whose outline contains its centre, so a polygon that straddles a line is counted once, in one community. Shares are a part’s hectares over the community’s zoned hectares.

Left out: polygons whose centre falls outside every community outline, the one degenerate polygon in the 2009-189 layer, and roads, which are not zoned. The parts are the by-laws’ own groupings, not land-use categories: an employment zone can hold offices or a warehouse, and a residential zone’s permitted forms differ by code. The zone pages say what each code is and where it applies; the Town’s zoning certificate is the only binding answer for one property.
