Context
Iroquois Ridge in context
Iroquois Ridge is organised around a single unusually good piece of public infrastructure: a combined community centre, library branch and high school campus on Glenashton Drive, sharing a site and a parking lot. It is the model Oakville has used repeatedly since, and the reason the area functions as a centre for a much larger part of north Oakville than its own housing stock would justify.
The housing itself is late-1990s and 2000s subdivision, largely complete, with the remaining change happening on the arterials. The Town files applications for this part of town under Ward 6, and the active files there are concentrated on North Service Road East, Iroquois Shore Road and Eighth Line rather than inside the residential blocks.
The area is also a useful marker of how fast north Oakville filled in. The ridge it is named for is the old Lake Iroquois shoreline; two generations ago the land above it was farmland.
