Context
Uptown Core in context
Uptown Core is the growth area that has already partly happened. The blocks around Oak Park Boulevard and Hays Boulevard were built as a denser, more walkable node at Trafalgar and Dundas well before the current round of provincial housing policy, and the result is a working, if incomplete, mid-rise centre with retail at grade.
The unfinished part is what the current review is about. The Town's Uptown Core Growth Area Review is reconsidering how much more height and density the node should take, and the largest single opportunity is publicly owned: the former Public Works site at 2264 Trafalgar Road, where the Oakville Municipal Development Corporation has filed an official plan amendment, a rezoning and a draft plan of subdivision.
Trafalgar Road through here is also one of the two corridors Oakville Transit has named for a future Frequent Transit Network at 15-minute or better headways, which is the service level that makes a node like this work without a car.
