Committee of Adjustment, October 14: five variance requests, including less parking at a nine-storey rental building on Glenashton Drive
Oakville's Committee of Adjustment hears five minor variance applications at a virtual hearing on October 14: four for new detached houses and one to trim the parking required at a nine-storey rental apartment building on Glenashton Drive.
The details
The October 14 hearing
The published agenda sets the hearing for Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 7 p.m., as a virtual meeting live-streamed on the Town's website at oakville.ca/live.html and on the Town's YouTube channel. Five minor variance applications are on the agenda, and no consent (land division) applications are listed. The Committee of Adjustment is a group of citizens appointed by Council under Ontario's Planning Act; it decides minor variances from the zoning by-law without Council's involvement.
- Two-storey detached house; a 3.0 m north side yard where 4.2 m is required, and a 9.6 m front yard where 10.29 m is required.
- Nine-storey rental apartment building (Mixed Use zone); a minimum of 1.14 parking spaces per unit where 1.15 is required, with the visitor share unchanged at 0.15 per unit.
- Two-storey detached house; residential floor area ratio of 40.95% where 35% is permitted, lot coverage of 27.01% where 25% is permitted, and an 11.16 m front yard where 11.53 m is required.
- Two-storey detached house; lot coverage of 27.71% where 25% is permitted, and 1.2 m side yards on both sides where 1.8 m is required.
- Two-storey detached house; a 4.98 m garage door facing the road where 3.5 m is the maximum.
The Glenashton Drive parking request
The one application that is not for a detached house concerns 315 Glenashton Drive, zoned MU4 Mixed Use with a site-specific provision. The notice describes a nine-storey rental apartment building and asks for a single variance: a minimum of 1.14 parking spaces per dwelling instead of the 1.15 the zoning by-law requires, with 0.15 spaces per dwelling still set aside for visitors. The notice does not state the number of units or spaces involved.
How to take part
Anyone can send written comments on an application to the Committee's Secretary-Treasurer at coarequests@oakville.ca (preferred) or by mail to 1225 Trafalgar Road, including their name, address and the application number or property address. The notices ask for comments to arrive no later than noon the day before the hearing, which for this hearing is Tuesday, October 13, and say written submissions become public. To speak at the virtual hearing, residents pre-register as a delegation by email or by phone at 905-845-6601, ext. 1829, by the same deadline.
The notices state there are no third-party appeal rights. Comments received so far on each file are attached to the agenda.
