Oakville Election 2026

Mayor of Oakville

Every Oakville voter votes for Mayor on October 26, 2026. These are the certified candidates, listed by surname, with what the office controls — presented neutrally.

What the Mayor does

The Mayor is the head of Oakville Town Council and chairs its meetings. The Mayor is elected by all Oakville voters and also sits as one member of Halton Regional Council.

The Mayor is one vote on a council of fifteen (the Mayor plus two councillors from each of seven wards) and also sits on Halton Regional Council. The Mayor chairs council but, like any member, works through council to change Town policy. Many issues raised in a campaign — highways, schools, health, provincial housing rules — fall partly or wholly to Halton Region or the Province; our issue pages set out who controls what.

Issues

Understand what the race is about

  • Housing & growthHow much housing Oakville adds, and where, is set mainly by Town planning decisions within a framework the Province controls.
  • Development & planningThe Town approves most development, but within provincial planning rules and subject to appeal at the Ontario Land Tribunal.
  • Property taxes & Town financesAn Oakville tax bill combines a Town portion, a Halton Region portion and a provincially-set education portion; council sets only the Town's.
  • Traffic & transportationResponsibility for Oakville's roads is split: the Town runs local streets, Halton Region runs major arterials, and the Province runs the highways.
  • Oakville TransitOakville Transit is operated by the Town, so its routes, fares and service levels are a direct municipal decision.
  • Parks, recreation & community servicesParks, recreation centres and most community services shown here are delivered directly by the Town.

OakvilleIQ does not endorse, recommend, rank or score candidates. Every candidate in the same race is presented under the same structure. How we cover the election.
