Who can vote, and what to bring

You can vote if you are a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, and a resident of Oakville or an owner or tenant of land in Oakville (or the spouse of one). Permanent residents who are not citizens cannot vote. You vote once, whatever the number of properties you own or rent in town.

If you did not receive a voter card, or your name is not on the list, you can still vote by showing acceptable identification with your name and qualifying address. The Town lists an Ontario driver's licence, Ontario photo card, a current utility bill, a current bank or credit card statement and a current insurance policy among the common forms; the full list is on the Government of Ontario's website. Online changes to the voters' list through Am I On the List closed on October 23 at noon, so additions today are made at the voting location with identification.

If you cannot get inside

Curbside voting is available today: a friend or support person can go inside and ask election officials to bring a ballot out to your vehicle or another area, or you can call 905-815-6015 and elections staff will call the voting place for you.

Results

Unofficial results will be posted on elections.oakville.ca after all voting locations close, and displayed live in the South Atrium at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road, where the public is welcome. Official results follow certification by the Town Clerk. The new term of Council begins on November 15, 2026; the Town's 2026 calendar marks Monday, November 16 for the new Council's inaugural meeting.

Corrections

  • An earlier version said the new term of Council begins November 16, 2026, the date the Town's October 13 release gave. Under section 6(1) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, the term begins November 15, 2026. November 16 is the date of the new Council's inaugural meeting on the Town's 2026 calendar.
