When you can vote

Election Day is October 26, 2026, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.. On Election Day you vote at a location in your own ward.

Advance voting runs October 7–10 and October 13–18, 2026. At an advance poll you may vote at any advance location in Oakville, not only one in your ward. The Town confirms advance locations closer to the dates.


Who can vote

To vote in the Oakville municipal election you must be:

  • a Canadian citizen;
  • at least 18 years old;
  • a resident of Oakville, or an owner or tenant of land in Oakville, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant; and
  • not otherwise prohibited from voting under the law.

How ballots are cast

Voting is by paper ballot, in person. You mark an X beside the candidate or candidates of your choice behind a privacy screen. There is no internet, telephone or mail-in voting in this election.

Bring identification showing your name and Oakville address — for example an Ontario driver’s licence or photo card, a utility bill, a bank or credit-card statement, or an insurance document. The Government of Ontario publishes the full list of acceptable identification.


Accessibility and other ways to vote

  • Curbside voting for voters who cannot enter a voting place;
  • home visits for voters with a medical condition or mobility limitation;
  • voting at long-term care and retirement homes;
  • proxy voting, where someone you certify votes on your behalf.
