Questions
About the results
- When will Oakville’s results be known?
- Voting closes at 8 p.m. on October 26, 2026. Ontario’s 2026 voters’ guide says many municipalities report unofficial results on election night, and that results are not official until the clerk declares them, usually a few days after voting day. In 2022, Oakville’s Clerk released the official results three days after the vote.
- What is the difference between unofficial and official results?
- Unofficial results are the count as first reported. They become official only when the Town Clerk makes the declaration. This page uses the Clerk’s own label for every figure.
- Can there be a recount?
- The Province’s 2026 candidates’ guide says the Municipal Elections Act requires an automatic recount when votes are tied, held within 15 days of the Clerk’s declaration; if the recount is still tied, the Clerk chooses the winner by lot. A council or school board may also have adopted its own automatic-recount policy, and may order a recount within 30 days of the declaration; an eligible elector can apply to the Superior Court of Justice within the same period.
- When does the new council take office?
- The 2026–2030 term of municipal councils and school boards runs from November 15, 2026 to November 14, 2030, according to the Province’s 2026 candidates’ guide.
- Why are some seats not on the ballot?
- A candidate who is the only one nominated for a seat is acclaimed — elected without a vote. Acclaimed seats are listed above without vote counts.
- Who do I contact about the results?
- The Town Clerk’s office runs the election: elections@oakville.ca, 905-815-6015.
OakvilleIQ does not endorse, recommend, rank or score candidates. Every candidate in the same race is presented under the same structure. How we cover the election.
