History

Captain Francis Brown House. The house was built by Captain Francis Brown from England. Brown established a brewery in Oakville in 1867 and was a ship captain. The house was threatened by fire in 1893, which destroyed the McDonald Planing Mill situated across the street.

Heritage attributes

Built in Italianate style with 18" stucco-covered walls constructed of random beach stones set in thick mortar. Notable features include a decorative cupola, casement windows, shutter blinds and decorative door surround.
