History

Referred to as the Melancthon Simpson House. The property was bought by Melancthon Simpson in 1846. Melancthon and his brother John built some of the finest ships to come from Oakville and area shipyards between 1849 and 1864. The builder of the house is unknown.

Heritage attributes

Regency Cottage. Earliest known example of Regency design in Oakville. Medium pitched hip roof and symmetrically located bays on the front facade. The front verandah is decorated with finely crafted treillage. Main entranceway is accentuated by the entablature above the opening and the flanking sidelights.
