History

George's Square. Was set aside for public use in 1835 in the Edward Palmer Plan of Oakville. In 1875, it became a public park and a fence was erected to keep cattle out. In 1888, Wilfred Laurier spoke here to a crowd of 1500. The cenotaph was erected after WWI and the benches were added by the Royal Canadian Legion after WWII.
