Heritage attributes

The James and Katherine Taylor House has design and physical value as a representative example of a modest vernacular workers’ cottage. A vernacular home is one that is built with local resources and in local styles, often influenced by popular styles, but made to suit either the different weather conditions, purposes for the structure, or the available resources. The subject house would have been built for Bronte’s working class and is a humble and functional home. The one-and-a-half-storey house has an intersecting gable roof. The historic portion of the house appears to be the T-shaped section closest to the street, with steep gable roofs and shed dormers.

The property has historical value or associative value because it has direct associations with a theme, event, belief, person, activity, organization or institution that is significant to a community.

O. Reg. 9/06 sets the criteria a property must meet to be designated under Part IV; the Town recorded which one applies.

What the status means

Designated individually under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act by a Town by-law. Alterations to the heritage attributes and demolition need Town approval.
