Oakville extends a replacement-housing deadline for a Bronte condo site now in receivership
Fourteen homes were demolished for the Bronte Lakeside condo at 85 Bronte Road, but the project fell into receivership. With a sale to Greystar pending, Council granted a six-month extension to the deadline to rebuild.
The details
What Council decided
On September 28, Council granted a six-month extension to the deadline for building the replacement homes on a Bronte waterfront site, pushing it from November 8, 2026 to May 8, 2027. The site is the assembled land for the Bronte Lakeside condominium project, at 2432 to 2452 Lakeshore Road West and 77, 87 and 93 Bronte Road, in Ward 1.
A project in receivership
The project is in financial trouble. On December 2, 2025, the Ontario Superior Court placed the Bronte Lakeside project at 85 Bronte Road under a court-appointed receiver, Albert Gelman Inc., on an application by CMLS Financial Ltd. against Bronte Lakeshore Ltd. and Bronte Limited Partnership. Fourteen homes had already been demolished for the project under the Town's Demolition Control By-law 2023-101, which required the replacement building to be substantially complete within two years.
- Bronte Lakeside, 85 Bronte Road (Lakeshore Road West and Bronte Road)
- 14 residential dwelling units
- November 8, 2026, or a $20,000-per-unit penalty
- May 8, 2027 (six-month extension)
- In receivership; a sale to Greystar is pending
What happens next
The receiver told the Town it has a conditional agreement to sell the site to Greystar Canada Real Estate Services, and hoped to close in October. Staff recommended the extension to help that sale proceed and improve the odds the promised replacement homes actually get built, while keeping the Town's ability to set a firmer timeline once a new owner is in place.
