Oakville's driveway snow-clearing program is open, with a priority window for seniors until October 15
The Town's paid service that clears the ridge of plowed snow from the foot of your driveway is taking winter sign-ups, with early priority for residents 65 and older or with a disability, a $190.27-plus-HST seasonal fee, and only 1,100 spots.
The details
What the program does
When a road plow clears the street, it pushes a ridge of snow — a windrow — across the bottom of every driveway it passes, often onto a driveway the resident has already shovelled. The Town's Driveway Windrow Snow Clearing program sends a contractor to clear that ridge for registered households, clearing roughly 80 per cent of the driveway width. It does not clear to bare pavement, and it does not clear the rest of the driveway.
Who can register, and when
Registration opens in two phases through the Town's online services. From October 1 to October 15, advance priority registration is open only to residents who are 65 or older, or who have a physical disability or medical condition. From October 16 to November 7, registration opens town-wide to all residents. Spots are limited, so the priority window matters for those who qualify.
- Priority: residents 65 or older, or with a physical disability or medical condition
- Open to all Oakville residents
- First-come, first-served, through the Town's online services
Cost and limits
The service costs a non-refundable $190.27 plus HST per driveway entrance for the whole season, paid at registration. The program is capped at 1,100 driveways, and registration closes early if that cap is reached before November 7. Because it is first-come, first-served, reaching the cap — not the calendar — can end sign-ups.
When clearing actually happens
The service period runs from December 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027. Clearing is only triggered once at least 7.5 centimetres of snow has accumulated after a snow event ends and the roads have been plowed — so a dusting will not bring the contractor out, but the ridge left by a real storm should be cleared.
- $190.27 plus HST per driveway entrance, non-refundable
- 1,100 driveways
- December 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027
- At least 7.5 cm of snow after a snow event, once roads are plowed
- About 80 per cent of the driveway width, not to bare pavement
