The details

What is on the agenda

The Town's published agenda for Wednesday, October 28, 2026 sets the Committee of Adjustment hearing for 7 p.m. as a virtual meeting, live-streamed at oakville.ca/live.html and on the Town's YouTube channel. As of October 20 the agenda lists six minor variance applications under item 6 and nothing under consent applications. Item 4, requests for deferrals or withdrawals, is empty; any changes are usually announced at the start of the hearing.

  • A/054/2026 — 1562 Venetia Drive (deferred from the April 1, 2026 hearing)
  • A/127/2026 — 177 Woodhaven Park Drive
  • A/128/2026 — 624 Third Line
  • A/129/2026 — 1247 Crawford Court
  • A/130/2026 — 80 Second Street
  • A/131/2026 — 160 Trafalgar Road

The variances sought in each file, from a car wash's rear yard on Third Line to ten variances for a four-storey residential building at 160 Trafalgar Road and additions to a house in the downtown heritage district on Second Street, were set out in the Town's hearing notices and are summarised in OakvilleIQ's October 10 report on this agenda. Drawings and supporting documents for each file sit on the agenda page.

What the Committee decides

The Committee of Adjustment is an independent group of citizens appointed by Town Council under Ontario's Planning Act. Council plays no part in its decisions. It rules on minor variances, which excuse a property from a specific requirement of the zoning by-law, such as how close a building sits to a lot line, how tall it may be or how many parking spaces it needs, and on consents to sever land where only one or two new lots are created and no new road is needed.

For every variance the Committee must be satisfied of four things: that it keeps the general intent and purpose of the Official Plan, that it keeps the general intent and purpose of the zoning by-law, that it is desirable for the appropriate development or use of the land, and that it is minor.
