Oakville moves to designate Meadowridge Park's commemorative barn structure
Council has given notice it intends to designate the commemorative structure at Meadowridge Park, 3160 Meadowridge Drive, under the Ontario Heritage Act, for its salvaged materials from the historic Welsman barn. Anyone can object until November 2.
The details
What Council proposes
The Town of Oakville has published a notice of its intention to designate the commemorative structure at Meadowridge Park, 3160 Meadowridge Drive, as a property of cultural heritage value under Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act. The notice was published on October 2, 2026, following Council's consideration on September 28.
Why the structure is considered heritage
The designation rests on materials salvaged from the historic Welsman barn that are incorporated into the structure — barn boards, hand-hewn and sawn beams, and a metal pulley — together with bank-barn construction featuring a gambrel roof and concrete blocks. The Town ties the barn to the agricultural history and early development of the former Trafalgar Township.
