History

The owner of the land at the time the building was constructed was Benjamin Hagaman, a major grain dealer in Oakville. Hagaman was a partner with James Gage and together they imported American goods and were major dealers in the buying and shipping of grains in Oakville. Hagaman helped the trade industry in Bronte flourish in the 1840s-1850s.
