History

Built during the mid to late 1850’s by James Wesley Hill, who was born enslaved in the southern United States and came to Canada in 1850 as a result of the “Fugitive Slave Law”. Hill rented farmland where he built his original farmhouse and employed other freedom seekers from the United States.
