History

The Wesleyan Methodist Church was established in Oakville in the early 1830s after being organized by saddle-bag preachers. The church moved to a handful of buildings until they settled in this 1877 church building. The property has cultural heritage value for its significant role in the development of Oakville and the many community events held in the space over the past three centuries.

Heritage attributes

The original 1877 Gothic Revival style church building contains many Gothic details including pointed lancet windows, polychromatic brickwork, buttresses, quatrefoil windows and a steep roof with cross gables. The 1923 Lusk Hall addition as built in the Neo-Gothic style and contains decorative buttresses, a parapet with a battlement motif and multi-paned windows, typical of the style.
