Heritage attributes

The Westwood House is a vernacular building constructed with influences from the Late Georgian and Craftsman architectural styles. Constructed in the early to mid-1890s, the building’s symmetrical massing, order, and formality are representative of classical Georgian style architecture. Craftsman style elements include its use of local stone, the deep and wide front porch, and deep projecting eaves. The house is a rare and unique example in Oakville of a house constructed completely of stone, with a mix of both local Lake Ontario lakestone and Humber River sandstone.

The property has historical value or associative value because it has direct associations with a theme, event, belief, person, activity, organization or institution that is significant to a community.

What the status means

Designated individually under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act by a Town by-law. Alterations to the heritage attributes and demolition need Town approval.
