The details

What the Town proposed

The Town of Oakville is reviewing whether to develop a playground at Worthington Park, a 0.18-hectare neighbourhood park in Bronte, Ward 1. The park currently has no playground, no facilities and no listed amenities. It sits about 160 metres from the waterfront.

The Town held a public meeting on September 17, 2026, at Sir John Colbourne Recreation Centre for Seniors and accepted written feedback until October 15. The project page says no decision has been made.

What residents said

Most feedback was concerned. The meeting notes record questions about whether a new playground is needed, with residents citing nearby playgrounds they consider underused. Some preferred keeping the site as green space and asked for demographic studies.

Main concerns raised at the September 17 meeting
Safety
The most common concern: proximity to the parking lot, vehicle speeds, children crossing between playground and parking, e-scooters, and possible youth gatherings
Drainage
The green space is reportedly very wet after rain; residents asked whether a playground could change drainage or cause flooding on neighbouring properties
Parking and traffic
Possible overflow parking, existing neighbourhood parking pressure, and more traffic and pedestrians
Privacy
Adjacent homes and condo units would be close to the playground, raising concerns about noise and users looking into homes
Condo board
Raised liability, informal access points, parking enforcement, and opposition to construction; suggested funding go to enhancements at other nearby locations

Support

A couple of residents supported the project, citing better recreation for children and families, difficulty reaching nearby playgrounds safely on foot because of busy roads, and a community gathering space. One noted that some opposition appeared to focus on the presence of children rather than the project itself.

What happens next

A report will go to the 2027 Budget Committee summarizing the consultation and whether a playground is a community desire. The report will include costs and a conceptual design. The public may delegate to the Budget Committee on the item; the date has not been set.
