Ottawa puts $125,000 into accessibility upgrades at Falgarwood Pool
A federal Enabling Accessibility Fund grant will pay for a pool lift, step-free outdoor showers, a slip-resistant deck and tactile edge striping at the Gainsborough Drive pool, with work starting after Labour Day.
The details
The grant
Falgarwood Pool is getting $125,000 from the Government of Canada's Enabling Accessibility Fund for a further round of accessibility work. The federal contribution, announced with Minister of Jobs and Families Patty Hajdu, adds to renovations the Town has already carried out at the outdoor pool at 1349 Gainsborough Drive.
- A portable lift for getting in and out of the water
- New outdoor showers with step-free access
- A new slip-resistant deck with step-free access to the changerooms
- Tactile striping around the edge of the pool
What the Town already did this year
Earlier in 2026 the Town completed a wider entry walkway and a new entrance gate, an accessible service counter, and redesigned changerooms at the pool. The Town describes those earlier renovations as Town-funded; it did not state the cost of that work or the Town's share of the new features.
Timing
Construction of the federally funded features begins in the fall, once the pool closes for the season after Labour Day. Mayor Rob Burton said that with the work, both of the Town's outdoor pools now meet the accessibility standards required under the Ontario Building Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
