10 Burnet St, Oakville, built in 1870, is designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act by Town of Oakville By-law 1993-041 (1993).
History
Built in the mid-1870s by Alfred Mapes, a carpenter involved in the construction of a number of buildings in Oakville during the 1860s and 1870s. The property was originally owned by a large Montreal mercantile firm of Forsythe, Richardson and Company who became involved in an unsuccessful business venture with Colonel William Chisholm to develop waterpower from the Sixteen Mile Creek. In 1837, the property was sold to Willett Miller and from there the property had a number of owners.
Heritage attributes
Victorian Gothic style frame and stucco clad one-and-a-half storey house with L-shaped gable front and wing plan, and front projecting bay window and supporting brackets.
What the status means
Designated individually under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act by a Town by-law. Alterations to the heritage attributes and demolition need Town approval.
